What is leaky gut?
Chiropractor Vero Beach, Fl.- Leaky gut seems to be the answer to a lot of health issues here lately. What is it really? When we eat something and it begins a journey through our digestive system, it gets broken down to useable things to our body. It might be a protein or carb or even a vitamin. They are broken down and absorbed into our body. Sometimes we sustain damage to our gut. That destruction causes damage to the junctions between what are called microvilli. It makes the junctions larger, and these larger junctions allow undigested food to pass straight through to our blood from the intestine. When our immune system recognizes these undigested food particles, they begin to attack them. One particular cell called a mast cell, in our immune response, attacks them. When mast cells attack, they release something called histamines. These histamines can sometimes be hurtful to our body. They can cause bloating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, joint pain, muscle pain or even brain fog. So, it just might be leaky gut that gives you discomfort after eating certain foods.
