Is it cancer or a pinched nerve?
Chiropractor Vero Beach, Fl.-The simplest explanation is often the best answer. Occam’s Razor is a theory that states when there are many hypothetical answers to a theory, that the simplest is often the best answer. Yet, in life, we tend to jump toward the most difficult. I will have patients come into me with a problem. Let’s say, some numbness in their arm. Often, a patient will jump towards the worst-case scenario. They might think they are dying of cancer or have developed a severe neurological condition like ALS or MS. A possibility, but not very probable. The simplest answer could be they just pinched a nerve or slept on that arm and caused a mild neuropathy that will get better with a little time. It’s human nature for us to jump to something that is really severe and detrimental. When someone comes in, the history of the injury is very important. I’ll ask, how did it happen? When did it start? Key questions that can let us know as the physician, and let the patient remember that there was an actual start to the problem and how it happened. It’s not cancer!! You just hurt yourself in the gym or on the golf course. So, in the future always try to remember Occam’s Razor.
